Parliament is in...

Aren't these little cuties?

I saw them ages ago in a catalogue and called the store, only to find they hadn't even got the stock in yet. So they took my name and number, and I figured I would never hear from them again.

That was maybe 2 months ago now and just a couple of weeks ago, I got the call and they put them aside for me, and held them until I managed to pick them up on Sunday. Let me just say at this point, I didn't get there as early as planned and when I called to ask them to hold them a few days longer they happily obliged, thanking me for the call.

When I got there, Fred remembered my name, got them out of storage and we discussed which ones to buy and a few ways to set them up. He was really lovely and so helpful. (thanks Fred!)

There are 4 different options/sizes and they are all under $10ea.

Pretty cute hey? If you like them (and you want them too) just go to Domayne in QV Melbourne. There were quite a few in stock when I was there, though I don't expect they will last for long - they're a real hoot!*

*sorry - I just had to!

One man's trash is this girl's treasure...

It's exhausting work this moving and organising business. But amidst all the chaos, I have managed to setup my workspace and my pigeon holes are in pride of place and refilled with many of my tiny treasures. Amongst them are precious gifts and treasures that have been collected over the years. Some of the items are there for no other reason than that they appeal to me.

There's a bowl of acorns, a couple of elephants, an Indian hotel desk bell, an old ship oil burner, a felted gnome.

The smaller of the 2 sand bottles was given to me from our Brazilian friends in London... they bought us back "a little bit of sunshine" after a visit home.

I found the dandelion paperweight in London too and just had to have it. For my life, I have no idea how it was done... it is totally perfect.

There are a few birds that form part of my accidental collection and include an owl (a gift from an aunt), a metal garden ornament, and a bird that twitters when it's moved.

The latest acquisition is the brooch of a caravan underneath a tree, that was a gift in 2009. All of last year I spoke of escaping to the coast and hiding away in a caravan by the beach, so it was perfect.

There is a photo of my brother as a boy in a glitzy (plastic) frame that was in a Christmas cracker a few years back. And the ring that sits beside it, was given to my Mum by my Dad in the pre-children era.

All these little things that mean nothing much to anyone else, to me, are priceless.

Away with the birds...

I have been away with the birds... not literally, just in a blog sense. I have actually been busy and among other things I have been asked to document a friend's journey in setting up his cafe. His blog (and cafe) is called seven a.m. It's in it's early stages - the cafe and the blog - and there is a lot of work ahead. I will be posting there regularly to keep everyone up to date with the latest developments. Go say hi if you get the chance.

In the meantime... I have noticed I have a bit of a collection of birds happening around here and I thought I might share a few images with you. Somehow it has grown without me realising. I added to it today when I received the little piu piu bird in the bottom right hand corner. It was hand delivered all the way from the USA. Not only is it magnetic and holds paperclips in it's tail and wing region, it also chirps when it's moved.
