OMG, NYC is one of my favourite places on earth. I am so excited for you. I have a few suggestions I can give you, and an old lonely planet guide from 2003 that you're welcome to borrow.

Its been 30 years since I was there but it still leaves happy feelings. i went over Christmas/New Year. I believe its very humid in summer. Soho, The Guggenheim, shopping, food, lots of walking, squirrels. All fast and big but so much fun. Happy days to you.

Wow! so exciting! i'll be going there often now since my youngest is going to University in downtown Manhattan. The place kind of scares me since i am defintely a small town girl, but it is exciting too.

Woohoo! When are you going?

I was never one for organised tours BUT I found that to be the cheapest way to explore the US - we were there for 6 weeks too. With that trip, we got to see HALF the country. Literally, trekked from one side to the other. San Fran, the West Coast - and then across the South/South West right down to Louisiana and Florida, then up the East Coast until we finished in Washington and New York City. It was awesome.

If no tour, will you be driving? Loads of road trips can be found online - my parents do Route 66 every couple of years self-driving and staying in B&Bs!

I just spent the afternoon looking at hundreds of photos my niece took while she was on a school art excursion which included New York, London and Paris.
New York was amazing and I agree with Lou, Art, Art, Art!!!!

how amazing. it sounds like so much fun. make sure you leave plenty of time to visit the metroplitan museum of art and take a pedicab tour through central park. there's a tourist centre on times square you can pick up lots of brochures including the vintage markets on sunday. i went to three and loved them. they are the best! and walk everywhere ... it's so bustling. you will have the best time.have fun.

My tips would be to take the time to absolutely soak in everything. It is very fast paced. Take an Amtrak train to Niagra Falls too close to miss seeing it.
