101 things about me

No sugar for a month? Who's crazy idea was that?

Call me crazy, but I decided to have no sugar for a month. No sweets, lollies, cakes, desserts, biscuits, cookies, no fizzy drinks. None. The intention was to stop the cravings and break the habit.

Of course I knew I couldn't avoid all sugars, but I have, for the entire month of June, avoided most and have declined any offers on the afore mentioned goodies. And it's nearly killing me!

It sounded like a great idea at the time. Of course, these things always do sound better in ones own head. So I have no-one but myself to blame.

It has not been easy. I am a person who includes chocolate in the major food groups. And here at day 25, it seems even harder than days 1, 2 and 3. Right now, all I want is chocolate. Forget the cakes etc, I'm not really bothered. But chocolate is infiltrating my every thought.

Last night I even dreamed I ate chocolate. As I was half way through I realised what I had done. I even felt guilty! And this morning I woke up wanting it even more.

Roll on next Wednesday... July 1st is chocolate day!

Oh no! I was so inspired when I read your blog title, because I really want to do the same thing and kick the habit. But hearing how hard it's been makes me worry!!

Good luck for your remaining 6 days. My thoughts are with you and your chocolatey dreams!

It's only a few days off now. You can make it.

I may be talking sacrilege here, but have you tried NAS Carob (that's No Added Sugar)? Don't expect it to taste like chocolate, but it has a similar consistency, and if you eat it real slow it's great!

You may want to slap me after that :)

Anyway thanks for your council on changing your name. No my name isn't really flossy (I wish, how cute). No it's Sarah :) VERY normal in comparison.

So you hat having a hyphenated name? Is it because of the hyphen, or the fact there's two names? Do you have to use both all the time, or can you choose one or the other? It's great getting the story from the side of someone who actually lives with a hyphenated name, rather than theorising about one. I don't think I'd give my kids a hyphenated name, they'd just have one. It'd be up to me to change my name to share their name or not. Such a big decision.

What were you thinking!??!! You know for me if I ban myself from having something it's all I can think of. So when I gave up smoking I just said "I wonder how long I can last with out a cigarette. I can have one if I really, really want one"....I've lasted 5 years and I'm not sure how many months and I still haven't had one.
Good luck. Just make sure when you do have one it's just a small really really expensive yummy sort that's how I keep my consumption in check. I'm allowed to savour one piece of the best richest dark chocolate and that is so much more satisfying than a whole block of ordinary family fruit and nut!

Wow, you're stronger than me! I've tried, tried really hard, but eventually gave into the chocolate craving long before my self-imposed deadline.

I hope you are busy swimming in a bath of choc and haven't surfaced for the rest of the week.

Hi Jacinta!
I hope you are feeling GREAT, and not suffering from any serious sugar deficiencies! I so would not even try that at this point in my life. I think I'll just stick to cutting back on the coffee, and being able to treat myself to a couple of squares of Green and Blacks 70% or Maya Gold every few days!

I'm so impressed. That's really fantastic. Not long now. I hope you don't fall into a sugar induced coma when you reach for the goods at the end of the month.
